Water is THE secret to reflexology and I urge everyone to drink more than your usual quota of water for at least 24 hours following a reflexology treatment.
Reflexology encourages the body to work twice as hard to eliminate toxins. The only way to completely remove this waste is by flushing them out, and water is the only vehicle to support this process. Without it reflexology can leave you feeling dehydrated and you may experience headache and flu-like symptoms.
If you’ve ever had a session with me, you’ll know I don’t shy away from a gentle “nag” about drinking more water — especially in the warmer months! But truly, staying well hydrated is essential all year round, and it’s one of the simplest yet most powerful ways to support your overall wellbeing.
So, let’s take a moment to revisit why water is so vital to our health and why even something as simple as the colour of your urine can give you valuable insights into how hydrated (or dehydrated) you really are.
Why Water Matters
Did you know that around 60% of your body is made up of water? This precious resource needs regular replenishment and plays a vital role in a whole range of bodily functions. Here’s just a taste of what staying hydrated can do for you:
💧 Enhances memory and mood
💧 Helps maintain a healthy weight
💧 Boosts physical performance
💧 Aids digestion and prevents constipation
💧 Supports urinary tract health
💧 Regulates body temperature
💧 Cushions and protects joints, tissues, and your spinal cord
💧 Improves blood oxygen circulation
💧 Increases energy levels
💧 Keeps your skin glowing
💧 Enhances focus and cognitive function
💧 Flushes waste and toxins — especially important after reflexology treatments!
How Much Should You Drink?
The NHS recommends 6–8 glasses of fluid per day, but don’t forget you can also boost your hydration through water-rich foods like cucumbers, watermelon, oranges, and leafy greens.
And if you fancy making your water a little more exciting (like we often do after your reflexology session), try infusing it with fresh mint, cucumber, or a few slices of lemon. Not only does it taste lovely, but it also makes hydration feel like more of a treat.
A Simple Hydration Tip
Keep an eye on the colour of your urine — it should be a pale straw-yellow. Anything darker could be a sign that your body is crying out for more water.
So here’s your friendly reminder: fill up your glass, your bottle, or your jug — and let’s raise a toast to the most natural medicine of all. 💦 - - Oh and don't forget the little people and pets in our life too.
Enjoy the rest of your day,
