❌ The Myth
“Reflexology works instantly – you’ll see results straight away.”
✅ The Reality
While some people do experience immediate relief or deep relaxation during their very first treatment, for many others, the changes are more subtle and build gradually over time. Reflexology works in partnership with your body’s natural rhythm – and everyone’s journey looks a little different.
It’s not always a quick fix, but it can be a powerful part of your self-care journey, gently supporting your body and mind towards balance and resilience.
🌿 Reflexology is Cumulative
Like many holistic therapies, reflexology is cumulative in nature. This means that:
The positive effects build up over time
Each treatment deepens the benefits of the one before
Regular sessions help you become more aware of the changes happening in your body and mind
This is why we often encourage people to start with more regular sessions – to help establish that foundation of wellbeing. Over time, as the benefits accumulate, you may find your body responds more quickly and the improvements last longer between treatments.
📖 Research Spotlight
Studies have shown that reflexology often works best over a course of treatments rather than as a one-off:
A study on breast cancer patients found that regular reflexology helped ameliorate fatigue, improve sleep quality, reduce pain, and maintain overall quality of life during radiotherapy (Tarrasch et al., 2018).
Another study with children receiving blood transfusions found that reflexology provided a greater reduction in anxiety, pain, and blood pressure than simple massage – highlighting that the benefits are both physical and emotional (Jadhav et al., 2024).
These findings support the idea that reflexology has cumulative, measurable effects that build over time – far beyond simple relaxation.
🌿 Client Voices
"Gigantic thank you for today – feel like the weight has fallen from those shoulders!!! I get the stress oozing through my pores, feeling so much lighter now. Plus it was very liberating not to have any thoughts racing in my mind for 90min. I will make sure to book regular sessions as with each session my body and mind relaxes faster and the effect of the session is getting more profound. Thank you!!!" (10to8 Review – 10.02.24)
"Tanya makes you feel so safe and supported on arrival until the end of the treatment, with lovely little touches like the cucumber water and hot stones. The cabin/treatment room is beautiful and the bed/couch so comfortable that you feel so relaxed throughout the treatment. It’s definitely one of my must self-care things to do regularly." "I contacted Tanya during a particularly stressful time at work, which had led to me having to take several weeks off to recover. I have had reflexology previously at spas but only as a one-off treatment and as much as I always found this relaxing there wasn’t any real long-term benefit; with Tanya however I have been able to look & plan how it could help improve, as well as manage, my wellbeing both mentally & physically. It has enabled me to reflect on the impact that stress has on my overall wellbeing as well as now having an understanding of mindfulness; this can only be a good thing. Tanya is someone who has great empathy and a very calming manner & has certainly helped me, I feel so much better. I will continue to have regular sessions as a preventative measure & would absolutely recommend Tanya as a therapist."
These real experiences show how reflexology’s benefits unfold and deepen with time – moving from one-off relaxation to long-lasting wellbeing support.
🌿 In Summary
Reflexology isn’t about instant results. It’s about building a foundation of wellbeing that supports you over time – session by session, layer by layer.
