❌ The Myth

“I’d love to try reflexology, but my feet are too horrible!”

✅ The Reality

This is such a common worry – especially from sportspeople. Runners, footballers, gym-goers and walkers often apologise for their feet being too callused, blistered, or “ugly.”

But here’s the truth: I’ve never seen a pair of feet I thought were horrible.

Feet are remarkable – they carry us through life, through training sessions, through all the highs and lows of movement. Reflexology isn’t about how your feet look – it’s about helping them (and you!) feel better.

🌿 Why Your Feet Deserve Care

Whether your feet are:

👣 Blistered from running shoes

👣 Callused from years of activity

👣 Sore, dry, or swollen

👣 Or simply neglected in socks and trainers

… reflexology offers them the attention they deserve. Far from being “too horrible,” it’s often the hardest-working feet that benefit most from treatment.

🌿 Reflexology for Sportspeople

Reflexology is not just about relaxation – it can be a powerful tool for sports recovery and performance too.

Techniques like Vertical Reflex Therapy (VRT), developed by Lynne Booth, are used internationally with athletes to:

  • Relieve muscular and joint tension

  • Aid recovery after exercise

  • Improve mobility and flexibility

  • Support overall wellbeing during training

🌿 What My Clients Say

💬 “Dear Reader, it might be helpful if I explain a little about where my health was before my toes fell into Tanya’s palms. I’m a 28-year-old woman with a love of exercise, but years of running and gym classes left me with IT band syndrome – a constant burning pain in my thigh. No pain relief, physio or acupuncture worked. After several sessions with Tanya my pain has improved tremendously – it was 8 or 9/10 before, now it’s around 3/10. Her patience and professional approach have been invaluable to my fitness.” (Review received 2019)

💬 “I have been visiting Tanya for about 2 years now. After each session I leave feeling relaxed and renewed. My overall aches and pains hurt less and I always feel energised the day after. My feet are enormously grateful for the attention they receive.” (Sign-In-Scheduling: 16.09.23)

💬 “I have been bedridden for the last 6 years for 22 hours a day in chronic pain from a spinal disability. My session with Tanya was absolutely amazing – my whole body relaxed, and my racing mind finally stilled. Tanya is so gentle and calming. I even drifted into light sleep, which is so rare for me. Highly recommended.” (Sign-In-Scheduling: 06.06.25)

🌿 Research Spotlight

Scientific studies into reflexology show its impact on circulation, pain relief and wellbeing.

For example, a laser Doppler study (Dalal et al., 2012) demonstrated measurable changes in blood flow and oxygen perfusion in reflexology areas of people with lower back pain.

For athletes, improved circulation and reduced tension can mean faster recovery, fewer injuries, and better long-term performance.

🌿 Final Thought

So if you’ve ever thought, “My feet are too horrible for reflexology,” especially if you’re active or sporty – please know, your feet are never too horrible. They deserve care, and reflexology is one of the gentlest yet most effective ways to give them that.

👣 Your feet are welcome exactly as they are.
